Indian Runner are hearty ducks not prone to illness nor seem to be impacted by either hot or cold weather in a negative manner. This breed is one of the most avid foragers. They will provide for the bulk of their diet if allowed a spacious free-ranging area and a pond. Mature drakes weigh between three and a half to just over five pounds, on average. Adult female Indian Runner ducks usually weigh between a little more than three pounds to a little more than four pounds. Hens usually start laying eggs between 20 and 24 weeks of age. Indian Runners typically lay between 300 to 350 eggs annually, on average, and come in shades of white and blue. Hens lay consistently for about four to five years before the quantity of the eggs diminish. They lay jumbo size eggs weighing and average between 2.8 and 3 ounces.
